Distribution Changes - 8 Increases, 43 Decreases

It appears that several of the fund families have decided to modify their distribution payouts following another depressing quarter. Leading the charge was BlackRock, followed by MFS and Nuveen with a sizable number of cuts coming from municipal funds.

Two of the eight distribution increases announced this week are 'CEF Mastery' qualifying funds ('MPV' and 'MCI'). The funds 'FRA' and 'BGR' have a 'CEF Mastery' qualifying 'Score' and 'Final Score' but lack the required minimum estimated number of monthly distributions remaining (Est # Rem).

Big Deal? Yes? No? Maybe?

I wasn't exactly sure how much of a big deal I was going to make out of this, but I know it's worth a mention. There are currently a mere seven 'CEF Mastery' qualifying funds. That is the lowest number of 'CEF Mastery' qualifying funds since 'Closed End Fund Mastery's' inception in April 2020.

As the markets retest their June lows lately (Dow actually went below its June lows) and in light of this week's distribution report showing the largest number of distribution cuts since 'Closed End Fund Mastery's' inception, one could say that it is fairly impressive, that of the hundreds of distributions cuts, 'CEF Mastery' hasn't experienced a distribution cut since April 21, 2022. Big deal. That's what 'CEF Mastery' was designed to do.

What I do think is a big deal, and your input would be appreciated, is that in the last three weeks, the mere seven 'CEF Mastery' qualifying funds have benefitted from three distribution increases. Two this week ('MCI' and 'MPV') and one on Sept. 23rd ('FIF'). Why do I say this is a big deal? Imagine your portfolio having only seven positions, and in the midst of fresh market lows, while everyone else is cutting their distributions, not only did you escape all the cuts, but 42.9% of your holdings received a raise! That's pretty darn good. Don't you think?

'CEF Mastery' Distribution Report Card

'CEF Mastery's' total dollar distribution cut percentage declined to 0.60% of all distribution cuts since inception, down from 0.63% last week. Actual 'Net $ Distributions x 100 Shares' improved to $2,041.47, up from $1,768.23 last week.
