I reached out to the 'Adams Funds' family this morning to try to get more clarity on the distribution picture for both funds going forward.

Over 165 Years of Success

The closed-end equity funds that compose Adams Funds, Adams Diversified Equity Fund and Adams Natural Resources Fund, are two of the nation’s oldest and most respected closed-end funds. In 2019, both funds celebrated 90 years of being listed on the NYSE.

Adams Funds

The 'Adams Funds' family instituted a new managed distribution policy late last year to allow for a more normalized distribution payout throughout the year. The new distribution policy has been updated for both (ADX) and (PEO) in 'CEF Mastery.' Those changes will be reflected in the next report update.

Many of you know that (PEO) currently ranks #1 in 'CEF Mastery and has remained there for quite some time (since it was added to 'CEF Mastery'), and (ADX) currently ranks #9. The implementation of the 'Adams Funds' new managed distribution policy just made the funds a lot more attractive if you're looking for a more leveled income flow throughout the year.

New Managed Distribution Policy

The Board of Directors of Adams Natural Resources Fund, Inc. (the “Fund”) adopted a Managed Distribution Policy (“MDP”) to enhance long-term shareholder value by paying level quarterly distributions at a committed rate of 8% of average net asset value (“NAV”) per year. Distributions in accordance with the MDP will begin in the third quarter of 2024.

The Fund pays distributions four times a year. Distributions under the MDP can be derived from net investment income, realized capital gains, or possibly, returns of capital, and are payable in newly issued shares of common stock, unless a shareholder specifically elects to receive cash. The Fund has committed to distribute 2% of average NAV for each quarterly distribution, with the fourth quarter distribution to be the greater of 2% of average NAV or the amount needed to satisfy minimum distribution requirements of the Internal Revenue Code for regulated investment companies. Average NAV is based on the average of the previous four quarter-end NAVs per share prior to each declaration date.

The new distribution amounts (ADX $0.47 payable Feb. 28; for shareholders of record Jan. 27; ex-div Jan. 27 and PEO $0.53 payable Feb. 26; for shareholders of record Jan. 27; ex-div Jan. 27) will be recorded in 'CEF Mastery' as neutral events, neither an increase or decrease in distribution rate.
